Besan is a gram flour prepared by grinding dry split chickpeas into fine powder. It can be found in every Indian household and restaurant, as it is a staple ingredient. Its main use is in recipes, such as missi roti, cheela, bread pakora, besan bhindi, kadhi chawal and gatte ki sabzi. 500gm besan is also used in making sweets, like Mysore pak, besan laddoo, besan halwa, kheer and barfi. Women use a spoonful besan for making face packs, blending it with turmeric and rose water.
